  10. team and won a gold medal in the 800-meter 
  11. freestyle and a silver in the 400.

  14. swimming briefly, but then decided to try to 
  15. make the Olympic team for 1996. At the 1994 
  16. national championships, she won all three 
  17. distance events and raised her total of
  18. national titles to 42.
